Ruth Marie Pirsig

August 2, 1928 — November 12, 2020

Ruth Marie Pirsig, age 92 of Elmore, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on Thursday, November 12, 2020 at St. Luke’s Lutheran Care Center in Blue Earth.

A public visitation will be held from 12pm-1pm on Monday, November 16, 2020 at Patton Funeral Home. We ask that guests wear masks and be mindful of social distancing guidelines to best reduce the spread of COVID-19. Private family services will take place at 1pm with Rev. Robert Roettger officiating. Burial will take place at Riverview Cemetery in Elmore.

Ruth was born on August 2, 1928 in Albert Lea to Glen and Marian (Jensen) Johnson. She was raised and educated attending country school and graduated from Bricelyn High School. Ruth attended beauty school in Mankato and worked at Gustie’s Beauty Shop in Blue Earth. She married Stanley Pirsig on November 23, 1950, and they made their home in Elmore. In 1962, in addition to raising their children, she opened Ruth’s Beauty Shop in their home in Elmore, which she operated for 35 years.

Ruth was a longtime member of Shiloh Lutheran Church, where she participated in various organizations and committees. Ruth enjoyed all kinds of crafting. She especially liked to crochet, knit, embroider, and assist in the quilting group at church. Most of all, Ruth loved her family. She enjoyed all her family get-togethers, and her grandchildren held a special place in her heart.

She is survived by her daughters, Linda (David) Berndt of Blue Earth, and Susan (Verlin) Griese of Lakota, IA; sons, Bruce (special friend, Mary Tesch) Pirsig, and Barry Pirsig, both of Elmore; grandchildren, Heather (Kyle) Peters of Parker, CO, and Philip (Kara) Griese of Bancroft, IA; great-grandchildren, Addisyn Griese and Brielle, Brooklyn, Landon, and Crosby Peters; sister, Jeanette Miller of Bloomington; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Donald and Sonja Buck of Winona, and Ronald and Ginny Buck of Utica.

Ruth was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Stanley; brother-in-law, William Miller; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Irene and Bob Ogilive, and nephews, Bill and Lloyd Ogilvie.
