Roger Peterson

Roger Theodore Peterson, age 87, of Blue Earth, Minnesota, passed away peacefully on August 12, 2026. A funeral service will be held at 11AM Wednesday, August 19 at Patton Funeral Home. There will not be a time for visitation. Burial will be at Riverside Cemetery in Blue Earth.

Roger was born in Winnebago County, Iowa, to Theodore and Myrtle (Verlo) Peterson on September 27, 1938. He spent much of his working life in road construction and dedicated 30 years to the Faribault County Highway Department where he worked as a foreman before retiring.

Roger was married to Dianne, with whom he built a family and shared many years together until her passing. Later in life, Roger met Sharon Winter, and the two shared several wonderful years of companionship together before her passing.

While Roger enjoyed camping and spending time outdoors, his favorite place to be was home. He took great pride in tending to his flower gardens and was always tinkering with one project or another. There was usually something around the house that Roger was working on, fixing, improving, or simply figuring out.

Roger also had a fondness for auctions and thoroughly enjoyed attending them. He had a particular talent for going to an auction and coming home with more things than he ever really needed. Usually, there was something he just could not pass up. He had an incredible collection of clocks, watches and various items.

Roger had a special place in his heart for his pets and truly considered them part of the family. He especially loved his dog, Bandit, who was a constant companion and was treated every bit like a member of the family. Roger was a kind man who loved it when the neighborhood kids would stop by to visit, often coming over to see Bandit. Those simple visits brought him a great deal of enjoyment.

Roger also enjoyed heading up town to play cards with his friends. He valued those friendships and the time spent around the card table visiting, laughing and enjoying each other's company.

Above all, Roger enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. He appreciated the simple things in life—being at home, working in his gardens, tinkering on a project, spending time with his dog, playing cards with friends, enjoying a good western movie on Grit and visiting with the people around him. He would bring a sense of calmness to every visit.

Roger is survived by his son, Stacy (Debbie) Peterson; his granddaughters, Taylor (Tom) Peterson and Megan (Zack) Koehnen and his brother, Donald (Alona) Peterson. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Dianne Peterson; his longtime companion, Sharon Winter; his son, Troy Peterson; his sister, Mavis Roforth; and his parents, Theodore and Myrtle (Verlo) Peterson.

Roger will be remembered for his hardworking nature, his kindness, his love for his family and friends, and the happiness he found in simply being at home surrounded by the people, pets, projects and things he loved.
