“Roger died, junk for sale.” That’s how I wanted it to read. Kitty, the love of my life, said it had to be longer so here is a traditional version…RWF.
Roger Fletcher, age 86, of Blue Earth, passed away on Tuesday, April 14, 2026, in Fairmont. A Mass of Christian Burial celebrating Roger’s life will be held on Monday, April 20th, at 10:30AM at SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Blue Earth. A time for visitation will be held on Sunday, April 19th, from 4-6PM at Patton Funeral Home, Blue Earth, and continue one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery, Blue Earth.
Roger was born on August 22, 1939 in Mankato, MN to Earl and Mabel Fletcher. Roger lived in Easton during his early childhood and later moved to Blue Earth with his parents and sister.
He enjoyed a wonderful childhood in Blue Earth and graduated from Blue Earth High school in 1957. Roger attended St. Olaf College and graduated from Gustavus Adolphus College where he was a wrestler, as well as a member and president of the Kappa Sigma Phi fraternity. He earned a teaching degree in biology and physical education.
After graduating from Gustavus in 1961, he joined the US Navy and served as a line officer on the aircraft carrier, USS Yorktown, a Navy recruiter in Denver and Minneapolis, and remained active in the reserves until 1968, with the rank of lieutenant.
It was while Roger was recruiting in Minneapolis that a friend introduced him to Kitty Sauer. They were married on July 2nd, 1966 in Le Sueur, just six months after meeting.
Roger enjoyed a rich and varied work life; he worked for a short time at Gustavus before seizing the opportunity to move back to Blue Earth with the purchase of the Cedar Inn Drive Inn in 1967. He was a teacher, wrestling coach, entrepreneur, Faribault County Sheriff, real estate broker and developer before retiring from BEVCOMM. Roger played community baseball, coached little league baseball, was a cub scout leader, served two terms as the American Legion Commander and was a member of the American Legion Honor Guard.
Roger enjoyed doing many things with his family and friends, including card games, traveling, and all things outdoors. He was a faithful friend, devoted husband and father, and treasured time spent cheering on his children and grandchildren in their pursuits.
Roger is survived by his wife and partner of nearly 60 years, Kitty; his precious children Anita (Tony Pucillo) of Oregon, WI, Tom (Mandy) Fletcher of Blue Earth, and Elizabeth Manthe of Waseca. His treasured grandchildren Austin Pucillo, Hailey Pucillo, Peter Fletcher, Harper Fletcher, Catherine Manthe, and Emma Manthe. His sister Ramona Burg, one nephew and several nieces.
Roger is preceded in death by his son, Pete; his parents, Earl and Mabel Fletcher; and his parents-in-law, Ray and Betty Sauer.
