Dick proudly served in the United States Army from 1953-1956. Following his military service, Dick returned home to take up various jobs as a farm hand, in keeping with his roots. Always one to enjoy a fun social situation, Dick had many friends he joined for dinners, dancing and bowling league. In his later years Dick enjoyed camping with his lifelong friend Diane Osland. The pair often travelled to vintage camper rallies throughout the Midwest. Dick had many friends who became his family, being known as “Grandpa Dick” to the youngsters; Dick’s chest swelled with pride when called by his new title.

Dick had a treasure trove of stories from his past, and he loved reminiscing about the good old days, sharing memories that brought joy to all who listened. He had a way of connecting with people, which earned him the love and affection of all.

Left to cherish his memory are; many cousins, nieces and nephews, and close friend Diane Osland and her family.
