Marlyn "Marty" Walter Cassem

Marlyn “Marty” Walter Cassem, Sr., age 89, passed away on June 15, 2025, at his home in Blue Earth, MN. Memorial service will be on Saturday, June 21, 2025, at First Baptist Church, Blue Earth at 2 PM. Visitation will be from 4-7 PM on June 20, 2025, at the Patton Funeral Home and one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment at Riverside Cemetery at a later date.

Marty was born on May 4, 1936, in Ledyard, Iowa to Merle and Laura (Dutton) Cassem. He attended schools in Buffalo Center, IA and Blue Earth, MN. He married Deanna Rae Lloyd on April 26, 1955, in Blue Earth, MN. Marty served his country in the US Army with an honorable discharge in 1957. Marty and Deanna settled in Blue Earth, where they built a life together over 70 years of marriage. Marty attended Boiler Operator school in Mankato and earned his operator’s license. He worked for several years at the Blue Earth Light and Power Company. He later embarked on a distinguished 30 plus year career at 3M Co. in Fairmont, MN, where he applied his skills and dedication. Marty was an avid traveler, enjoying trips to Germany, England, Italy and throughout the United States. His adventurous spirit shone through in his love for snowmobiling, RVing, motorcycling, raising horses and an early passion for flying his Cessna airplane. A man of faith and service, Marty served as a Deacon at his church, and devoted 30 years to the Blue Earth City Council, leaving a lasting impact on his community.

Marty is survived by his beloved wife of over 70 years, Deanna, of Blue Earth, daughters, Kimberly (Tim) Ristau, of Prior Lake, Kerrie Cassem, of Harlingen, TX, son, Marty (Mary) Cassem, Jr., of Lake Crystal, three grandchildren, Jessica, Danielle, and Collin, six great-grandchildren, brother, Larry (Bonnie) Cassem, sisters, Dora (Ron) Fowler, Donna (Dave) Fischer, and sister-in-law, Lynn Cassem.

Preceded in death by his daughter, Kristine Cassem, parents, Merle and Laura Cassem, and brother, Steve Cassem.

Marty will be deeply missed and fondly remembered for his unwavering love of family, his zest for life, and his commitment to those around him. His legacy lives on in the hearts of all who knew him.

The family would like to thank the staff at UHD along with the hospice staff for their wonderful care. We appreciated the help and care from friends, relatives and members throughout the community of Blue Earth for their kindness.
