Margaret Ruth (Schwarz) Kuiken of Blue Earth died March 28, 2020 at the Good Samaritan Nursing Home in Lennox, SD. She was born September 13, 1928 on the family farm at Minnesota Lake, MN in Danville Township to John and Esther (Tesch) Schwarz both also born in Minnesota Lake, MN. She was active in her church playing piano and singing with her sister Angie. She attended high school in Minnesota Lake and acted in school plays. She graduated in the class of 1947. During WWII, because German was her first language, she worked at a hatchery in Wells, MN alongside German prisoners of war. She attended Bethany College in Mankato, MN. She taught elementary school for one year in Winona, MN and one year in Wilbert, MN. She married Robert Bert Kuiken at St. John’s Lutheran Church, Minnesota Lake, MN on June 10, 1951. The couple operated a dairy farm until retirement. They continued to have laying hens after retirement and sold eggs to their friends. In addition to socializing with family and friends, she enjoyed baking, reading, maintaining her home and mowing on her riding lawn mower. She is survived by her son John, her daughter Mary Stormo (Eric), her brother-in-law Robert Meyer and nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, an infant twin brother, her husband, her sister Angeline Meyer, her in-laws Symon and Helen Vander Ploeg, and two children Ruth Margaret and Richard Paul. Funeral arrangements are pending at Patton Funeral Home in Blue Earth, MN. Memorials may be given to St. Paul Lutheran Church in Blue Earth, MN. To protect the health and safety of all, services are currently being limited as required by state and local authorities and the CDC.
