Blue Earth

Karen Frances Fairchild, 81 of Blue Earth, passed away peacefully and surrounded by family on Tuesday, July 8, 2025 at St. Luke’s Lutheran Care Center.

Karen was born on February 4, 1944 in East Hampton, New York to John and Elizabeth (Wazlo) Smith. She attended Bridgehampton High school and later two years of business school. Karen worked as a personal secretary for a fashion model before getting married. On May 11, 1963, Karen married Charles “Chuck” Fairchild in Jackson Heights, New York. The couple later settled in Blue Earth with their family.

Our mother loved her family fiercely. She could not be defined by the dates in which she lived, but how she lived. She would sacrifice everything for her children. She was strict, but loving. She set examples of how to live, and how to enjoy life. When she was able, she was always on the go. She would share words of wisdom and encouragement to others. She loved the water, but especially the ocean and missed New York. Her work here on earth was done, but she left a lasting impression on many that will carry on. Her favorite song was "Let it be Christmas" for she loved not only the music, but the meaning of the words.

Left to cherish her memory is her sister Peggy (Smith) Miller, Her daughter, Susan Larson and grandson, Keith, granddaughters, Rachel & Faith, daughter, Jennifer Fairchild; and daughter, Melissa & Kenny Welsh, and grandchildren, Katie (special friend Gavin) & Ayden.

Karen is preceded in death by her parents, her sister Patty and brother Dennis. her husband, Chuck, and daughter, Cheryl Fairchild.
