Jerry Teig

Jerry Duane Teig, 90, formerly of Truman, MN passed away peacefully in Hopkins, MN on July 25, 2026. He will be deeply missed by his family and all who knew and loved him. Visitation will be on Monday, August 10, 2026 from 5-7 PM at Zaharia Family Funeral Home in Truman (or as Jerry knew it, People's State Bank), and one hour prior to the service at the church. Funeral Service will be held on Tuesday, August 11, 2026 at 11 AM at Trinity Lutheran Church in Truman with Pastor Eunice Woodberry officiating. Burial will be at Ridgelawn Memorial Park, Truman. 

Jerry was the first born of Rudolph and Viola Teig. Jerry was born at the old Truman hospital on Ciro Street on March 20, 1936.The Teig family lived on a farm in Waverly Township until the death of his father, Rudy in 1943. Despite Rudy's battle with cancer, he took time to play ball with his son which began his lifelong love of sports. Jerry graduated from Truman H.S. in 1954 and was very active playing basketball, football, baseball, and track and field. In his high school year book it said, "If sports were music, he'd be a full brass band!"

In 1957, Jerry completed a two-year associate degree from the University of Minnesota and enlisted to serve his country in the United States Army. When he returned home in 1959, Jerry started working at People's State Bank as a bookkeeper and through dedication and hard work, he advanced through numerous positions and became bank president in 1987. After 37 years of service, he retired in 1997. Jerry actually helped with the construction of the original Peoples State Bank in 1955 (now Profinium) while working for Bosshart Construction.

While Jerry was home on leave from duty, he was first introduced to Ramona Northwick by a mutual friend in Fairmont. They knew it was a match made in heaven when they discovered on their first date that they were both LA Dodger, Minnesota Gopher, and Minneapolis Laker fans. Jerry married Ramona on August 7, 1960 and had 48 wonderful years together. The Minnesota Twins became their number one baseball team and they later became Twins and Viking season ticket holders. The family holds many fond memories of watching or attending games with Jerry at many Twins games including the World Series, Vikings games, including the Minneapolis Miracle, U of M Gopher games, Timberwolves, and Lynx. He cheered for them all! The Teig family joined Rose Lake Golf Club in 1972 where he taught his daughters to love and play the game. Jerry and Ramona both got a hole in one on the 2nd hole of the original course many years ago! The family also enjoyed their annual Teig Open Golf tournament each summer.

Jerry was a dedicated son, brother, husband, father, grandfather, and friend. He and Ramona loved spending time with all of their grandchildren making frequent trips to the Twin Cities to cheer them on during sports events, dance recitals, and band concerts. Each grandchild brought them immense joy. They started each road trip by playing their favorite song, "On the Road Again".

He was also a dedicated servant of Christ, his community, and country. Jerry was a volunteer for Truman Fire and Rescue for 20 years. He served on the Truman school board, was an active member of the Jaycee's, Lion's Club, Truman Development Corporation, and delivered Meals on Wheels for many years. Jerry was baptized at Waverly Lutheran Church and confirmed at Trinity Lutheran Church. He was a faithful member of Trinity Lutheran Church, who served on the church council and volunteered in many roles including singing with Ramona in the church choir. Jerry was also a three-time cancer survivor of oral cancer, prostate and bladder cancer. He faced each challenge with courage and grace. In 2022, he moved closer to his daughters and eventually entered memory care, where he bravely battled Alzheimer's until his passing. Our family is grateful for the loving care he received at The Glenn Hopkins and Grace Hospice. Thank you for all of your prayers and kind words at this time.

Jerry is survived by daughters, Maria (Mike) Attema of Scottsdale, AZ, Jenny (Marty) Peterson of Burnsville, Angie (Michael) Teig Miller of Oak Grove; grandchildren, Mitch (Andrea) Miller, Sean (Alexandra) Miller, Timothy Gabriel, Matthew (McKenna) Attema, Nicole Attema, Andrew Peterson, Paige Peterson, and Hailey Peterson; great grandson, Henry Miller and soon to be a great granddaughter. He is preceded in death by his parents; stepfather, Elmer Barge; wife, Ramona; daughter, Tanya Teig, and sister, Karen Pettersen.
