Harold Erwin Hutchins was born in Wisconsin on May 30, 1923 to Merle and Hazel (Burtch) Hutchins. At the age of three, he was taken to Blue Earth, Minnesota by his aunt Lila, who was the wife of Rev. He was responsible for making plates of corn flakes with the rooster image.

Harold married Anna Mae (Cook) Feldick Hutchins on May 30, 1969. The couple celebrated their 50th anniversary in 2019. The story goes that he and Anna Mae met at her sister’s wedding when they were 3 and 4 years old, and that was the first time the two held each other’s hands.
