Gary Johnson

Gary passed away September 7, 2026 at home, with people he loved by his side. The public is invited to greet the family for visitation from 3-5pm Tuesday September 22 at Patton Funeral Home. Gary Albert Johnson was born February 27, 1943 in Blue Earth, MN. The son of Leonard and Berdeen (Pirsig) Johnson. The family later moved to a farm by Austin, MN where his father passed away 12-6-48 from a blood clot after ulcer surgery. Gary and his mom moved back to the Elmore, MN area and she married Dustin Kerr in June, 1950. 

Gary played football and excelled in wrestling in high school, graduating from Elmore in 1961. He found his career in farming and selling Dekalb seed corn and beans until retiring in 2006. 

In 1964 he met the love of his life, Terri Murra, at the portable roller-skating rink in Lakota, IA. They dated that summer and then went their separate ways. In November 1974 they reconnected and were married March 22, 1975. 

Gary loved driving his pickup around Elmore, attending the other two loves of his life, his son, John, and daughter Jana's school activities or anything they were involved in. Later in life, he transitioned into driving his Polaris Ranger while road farming the area. 

Left to cherish his memory are his wife Terri, son John, daughter Jana, and granddaughter Payton, as well as many extended family and friends. 

Gary was preceded in death by his father, Leonard Johnson, mother, Berdeen Kerr, adopted father Dustin Kerr, and many cherished family and friends.
