ElRose Thina Baukol was born on September 12, 1931 in Webster, SD to Alfred and Julia (Rindahl) Baukol.  She joined older brother Rudolph, and sisters Marlys and Julane and lived on the family farm near Roslyn, SD.  Her mother Julia passed away when ElRose was eight years old.  ElRose attended school in Roslyn, SD and graduated in 1949.  Following graduation, she attended Northern State Teachers’ College in Aberdeen, SD and received a permit to teach in rural SD schools.  Her future husband Reuben Anderson was also teaching at a rural school until he was drafted to serve in Korea.  ElRose accepted the challenge to teach in his vacated position.  They met when he visited the school during a furlough.  They became pen pals as Reuben wrote letters inquiring about the students, and ElRose was happy to write letters to him describing their progress.  They were married in 1953 at Fron Lutheran Church near Roslyn, SD.   The newlyweds lived in Colorado during the summers while Reuben earned his master’s degree, and in Minnesota during the school year while he taught.  In 1957 they moved to Blue Earth where they raised three children.

ElRose was an active person.  She enjoyed supporting her children’s school, church, music and sports activities.  She was also very active in her church including ladies aid, Bible studies, and fair stand.  ElRose loved being with her extended family and looked forward to spending time with them in the summer and on other special occasions. ElRose looked for and saw the good in other people and was genuinely interested in them. She would remember their names and relationships to others. ElRose communicated love to all that she encountered.  She had a sense of adventure, and enjoyed nature and traveling including  many camping trips in the central and western states.  ElRose also traveled to Norway, Bolivia, Panama, and Costa Rica looking for adventure and visiting family.

ElRose is remembered with love by her son Allen Anderson (Patti), granddaughter Crystal and grandsons Cameron (Kat) and Evan; by her son Bruce and granddaughters Katherine (Cuyler) Hunter, Mary (Aubrey) Olson, and Julie (Patrick) Smith; and by her daughter Elaine (Joel Collins) and step-granddaughters Rachael and Julia.  Additionally, ElRose has eight great-grandchildren; Asher and Jude Anderson (Cameron/Kat), Kerris and Rhet Hunter, Hazel and Kellan Smith, Odin and Magnus Olson.  She was preceded in death by her parents Alfred and Julia (Rindahl) Baukol, brother Rudolph and wife Ruth Baukol, sister Julane and husband LeRoy Hoyer, sister Marlys and husband Leslie Simonson, niece Marjean Simonson, and nephews David and Darrell Hoyer.

She was loved by many and will be missed.
