She was baptized and confirmed at East Chain Lutheran Church; attended and graduated from the East Chain School in 1944. She continued her education at Mankato State College; after graduating with a teaching degree, Doris was a fun and amazing teacher at the elementary school in Elmore for a total of 30 years before retiring in 1992.
Doris married the love of her life, Donald Klein, on June 29, 1948 at East Chain Lutheran Church. They were blessed with 48 years of marriage and three children: Barbara, Ronny, and Larry. Don and Doris enjoyed life farming and traveling the states together. They spent many years camping; first starting in 1970 with a pick-up camper then upgrading to their 5th-wheel- a favorite destination for both was to Leech Lake, Federal Dam. After Don passed away March 17, 1996, Doris continued to enjoy traveling with many friends and family. She especially loved her bus trips for the convenience of someone else planning and driving.
Doris joined the Elmore Methodist Church in 1948 where she was an active member for many years. She was proud to have served on the building committee, as well as several other church and UMW offices’ and committees’, Bible and Sunday school teacher, and member of many Bible Studies.
She loved her life in Elmore and her past few years in Southview estates/St. Luke’s. Loving life with any friendships and social events; always having fun playing cards and games (sometimes making up rules), having coffee and going “out” anywhere. She was a beautiful organist and pianist.
She lived life as a fun spirited, kind, positive and loving lady; sharing lots of smiles and hugs, to know her was to love her. She loved all chapters and experiences of her life, especially being a wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend.
