It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Donald Franklin Day, who left us peacefully at the age of 80 on June 4, 2026. A funeral service will be held at 1PM Tuesday June 9 at Patton Funeral Home. Visitation will be Monday June 8 from 4-7PM and continue one hour before the service. Online condolences can be left at www.pattonfh.com
Donald was born on June 1, 1946, in Winnebago, MN, to Franklin and Mildred (Shouts) Day and spent his formative years in Amboy alongside his three siblings. Donald was a man of many talents and passions. After completing high school, he dedicated 40 years of his life as a mechanic at Yeager Implement, working tirelessly on farm machinery, particularly bobcats. A true handyman at heart, he could fix anything, and he enjoyed refurbishing tractors, trikes, and wagons in his spare time.
His knack for puzzles and gardening reflected his gentle and thoughtful spirit. He met the love of his life, Peggy, on a blind date, and they hit it off over a plate of spaghetti. Their bond lasted for 53 beautiful years, filled with love, laughter, and shared memories. Donald was not only a devoted husband but also a caring father and grandfather, cherished dearly by his daughters and grandchildren. His ability to be both a hardworking provider and a compassionate caretaker for Peggy during her times of illness showcased the depth of his character and devotion.
There was no other man like Donald Franklin Day. He will be sorely missed, but his spirit will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.
He is survived by his wife, Peggy of Blue Earth, daughters Sara Kirsch (Nathan Tungland) of Frost and Wendy Day (Michael Fogarty) of Blue Earth, grandchildren; Payten Kirsch, Paige Kirsch, Tyler Long and Miranda Long. Sisters; Mavis Kietzer and Kathleen Wood as well as many other extended family and friends.
Donald was preceded in death by his parents and his brother Ronnie.
