Donald Henry Bell, age 85, died unexpectedly but peacefully on Saturday, July 20, 2019, in his Guckeen, Minnesota, farm home. He was born June 15, 1934, on the same farm that he loved and cared for his whole life. He was born the son of George and Helen Bell (née Ficken). He was married to Vernette Bell (née Vogt) on Sept. 5, 1953, at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Blue Earth.
As a lifelong farmer, his work was never done. Donald spent his days working tirelessly on the farm. He was often seen pulling weeds, tiling and ditching water from fields. His work ethic and love of the land defined him. The pride for his land and farm site was easily recognized by those who knew him, and those who didnʼt. Donaldʼs passion for his land was nothing compared to that for his family. Beneath his crooked cap, Donald was a loving and devoted husband, father and grandfather. Spending time with his grandchildren was one of his greatest joys. From giving them rides on the four wheeler when they were little to even simple conversations, he was never short a smile for those he loved. Quick-witted and with a great sense of humor, he always had those around him laughing. Aside from spending time with family, some of his favorite pastimes included watching the news and current events, watching old classic movies and westerns, and the Minnesota Twins.
He is preceded in death by his parents; his wife of 57 years, Vernette; his siblings Norman, Marion, and Raymond; and his sons-in-law Mike Tines and Joe Allen.
He is survived by his six children, Julie (Mark) Burns, Trudy Allen, Gary (Cheryl) Bell, Nancee (Tom) Bell, Koni (Dave) Sjulstad, and Corey (Cathy) Bell; his sister Irma Haugh; and his 16 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be Saturday, July 27, 2019, at 11 a.m. at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Blue Earth with visitation one hour prior. Interment will follow at Riverside Cemetery in Blue Earth.
