Donald James Asmus

Donald James Asmus, age 67, passed away peacefully on September 29, 2026 at his home surrounded by his loving family.

Don was born on June 20, 1959, in Fairmont, Minnesota, to Robert and Donna (Gustafson) Asmus. Growing up, he attended Frost Public School, where he developed a lifelong passion for sports as a proud athlete who played basketball, football, and baseball.

In 1980, Don married the love of his life, Tammy Andrews. Together, they built a life centered on love, family, and hard work. They raised their three children on a farm north of Pilot Grove before making their home in Blue Earth in 2025.

By trade, Don was a dedicated trucker, logging countless miles on the highways over his long career. On and off the road, Don was known for his friendly, welcoming nature—he was always someone who could carry on a conversation with anyone and happily talk for hours with friends and strangers alike.

When he wasn't on the road, Don enjoyed cheering on his favorite teams and drivers, rarely missing a chance to follow NASCAR, the World of Outlaws Sprint Car, Minnesota Timberwolves basketball, or Minnesota Wild hockey. Above all else, family was Don’s true passion, and nothing made him prouder than his grandchildren.

Don was preceded in death by his parents; and his grandmother, Alice.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 46 years, Tammy; his three children, Jennifer (Kyle) Zierke, Nathan (Mandy Root) Asmus, and Brandon (Megan) Asmus; his cherished grandchildren, Traven Zierke, Hudson Zierke, Avery Asmus, Gracie Asmus, Haiden Wielenga, Berkley Wielenga, and Hazel Asmus; his brother, Roger (Sue) Asmus; aunt, Audrey Simmons; sisters-in-law, Lori (Terry) Thompson, Penny (David) Stevermer; mother-in-law, Sherryl Andrews; and father-in-law, David Andrews, as well as several stepsisters and many nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held at Patton Funeral Home on Tuesday, October 6th from 5:00-7:00pm with a private service on Wednesday, October 7th, at 11:00 am.
