Dennis “Lue” E. Hilpipre 70, of Blue Earth, Minnesota, passed away April 15, 2026. Born July 3, 1955 to Dean and Janet (Zufall) Hilpipre. He grew up on family farms near Pilot Grove and East Chain, attending school in East Chain and Granada-Huntley.
Dennis married Darlene Janssen on April 27, 1974 and together they built a life centered on family, hard work, and shared memories. He was a devoted husband, father of three, grandfather of five, and friend to many.
Dennis spent over 35 years working for the City of Blue Earth, and in “retirement” worked at Moore’s Ag. A skilled mechanic and true do-it-yourselfer who could fix just about anything, he was always ready to tackle projects or lend a helping hand.
Throughout his life, Dennis enjoyed snowmobiling, golf, racing, camping, fishing, hunting, tractor pulling, and cheering on the Vikings. He had a deep interest in history, chiefly the Old West, the Civil War, and World War II. He loved card and board games, and was known as a ruthless competitor, especially in Monopoly.
A collector at heart, Dennis procured baseball cards, car parts, tractors, tools, coins and more. He enjoyed finding treasures at swap meets, pawn shops and while metal detecting. He never turned down candy or sweets and loved going out to eat. He was known for his unfiltered sense of humor, choice words, and unforgettable one-liners. He claimed to be “tougher than a boiled owl”. Those who knew and loved him will treasure the countless memories left behind.
Dennis is survived by his wife, Darlene; his children, Jessie (Scott), Tom (Michele), and Annie (Jason); his grandchildren, Alex (Emma), Zach, Alyssa, Dylan, and Hazel; his sister Debbie (Eddie) and other extended family and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother Darvin, sister Valerie; a niece, nephew, brother-in-law, and pup dog Ms. Beasley.
A celebration of life will be held at Tami’s on the Avenue in Fairmont, MN Saturday April 25th at 2pm with a brief tribute and toast to Lue at 3pm. Please bring memories and stories to share. In Lieu of flowers, consider a donation to UHD Hospice and Faribault County Humane Society.
