Burdette Clarence Ensrud was born on March 14th, 1927 to Clarence Selmer Ensrud and Edna Mae (Babcock) Ensrud in Wells, MN. His family later moved to Bird Island, MN where he attended school. The family eventually relocated to Delavan, MN and purchased a farm there. On Feb. 12th, 1949 he married Shirley Mae Baker and together they raised three daughters.
Burdette held many jobs over the years. He and Shirley owned the Grill Café, he worked at Quirk Lumber Yard, Blue Earth Ready Mix, Don’s Fleet Supply, owned and operated a Standard Oil Bulk truck, worked at G&L Automotive Supply and NAPA. Somewhere among all those jobs, he also drove school bus for many years. One of the things he enjoyed most was having coffee with his patrons while on his fuel oil/gas routes. Quite the handyman, he and Shirley flipped houses before that was a “thing”.
Burdette was a long time member of First United Methodist Church (now Hope UM) serving on a number of committees and receiving the “Service” pin from the United Methodist Women.
Favorite pastimes were traveling to Norway, Ireland, England, Germany, France, Switzerland, Hawaii and many car trips with the family. They enjoyed camping with the Good Sam’s Club and were always up for a game of 500 or Bridge. “Up North” fishing trips were many as were the tales! Gardening was a passion and he shared his tomatoes (grown from seed), Swiss chard, raspberries, potatoes and much other produce with family and friends.
Burdette passed away on June 4th, 2023 at St. Luke’s Lutheran Care Center at the age of 96. He is survived by his wife, and three daughters, LaDonna (Roger) Dutton, Debra (Egons) Teteris, Susanne (Daniel) Erdahl, twelve grandchildren: Samantha (James) Oliver, Ryan (Arlette) Dutton, Courtney (Ted) Dutton-Chien, Andris (Sarah) Teteris, Ariana (Jason) Wood, Kelly (Cathy) Wells, Nicholas (Joy) Wells, David (Sarah) Erdahl, Alexandra Erdahl, and twelve great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, siblings Donald Ensrud, Peggyanne Whitehead, and Gayle Ensrud, sister-in-law Maggie Ensrud and brother-in-law Gordon Whitehead. Also left to cherish his memory are Ida Jansen Teigum and Andreas Hausler.
