Audrey Ann Brod, a beloved cook, devoted animal lover, and cherished family member, passed away on May 13, 2026, at the age of 87.
Born on May 4, 1939, in Blue Earth, MN, to August and Madeline (Oelke) Grapevine, Audrey lived her entire life in this nurturing community, where she touched countless lives with her generous spirit and unwavering kindness. Audrey was a hard worker and enjoyed being busy. This work ethic played a large role in her years working at Juba’s and running the “lunch room” at the sale barn on Fridays. Audrey was famously known for her hot beef commercials, homemade pies, and sneaking the kids candy bars or pop after the lunch rush was over. Her culinary talents shone brightly and everyone looked forward to her food. In her later years and with arthritic hands, she would peel 50-pound bags of potatoes, all for the sake of helping someone in need. Her passion for helping others didn’t stop there—she was the planner behind many community events, providing food for funerals and church gatherings, and even preparing meals for those in need. Known affectionately as the "Cat Angel”, Audrey took her love for animals to heart, caring for her feline friends with a responsible touch, always ensuring they were spayed or neutered.
Audrey's home was a vibrant reflection of her spirit and personality, filled with laughter, love, and the beauty of her flower gardens. She was a long-time member of Hope United Methodist Church, where her warm presence and engaging spirit were always felt. Fridays were especially dear to her, as she gathered with friends for coffee, sharing stories and laughter that uplifted everyone around her. She was a friend to all.
However, nothing brought her more joy than her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Audrey was their biggest fan, keeping in contact through text messages and pictures. She wore the title of Grandma or “Gramma” as she so affectionately signed all of her cards proudly and she put the great in Great Grandma.
She is survived by her husband of 48 years, Dan, daughter Amanda Brod, and her dog Blossom. Son Scott (Susan) Erichsrud and their families: Shaun and his kids Mackenzie, Colton, and Cheyanne; Dustin (Kali) and their kids Coy, Taye, and Langley; and Danielle (Brad) Mull and their kids Ellie, Cora, and John. Daughter Lisa (Dirk) Esser and their families: Darren (special friend Jessica Blair), Eric (Allie) and their kids Hazel, August, and Eloise. Daughter Lynda (Kel) Stover and their families: Jacob (Kelsey) Hanson and their kids Jasper and Dylan; and Jeremy (Emily) Hanson. Step-grandchildren: Patrick Stover and Kenzi (Chris) Jeske and their kids Nathan and Lilly. Siblings: Bob (Carol) Grapevine and Donna (Dave Harris) Gerberding-Harris, and brother-in-law Lloyd Jenkins. Sister-in-law Jerilyn (Darwin) Missling and brother-in-law Jim (Theresa) Brod. As well as many nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family, and close friends.
She is preceded in death by her daughter Laurie, her parents, and sisters Darlene (Gerald) Simmering and Lois Jenkins.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to Hope Methodist Church or New Chances Humane Society.
A memorial service will be held at 11am Thursday May 21, 2026 at Hope Methodist Church. Visitation will be from 9-11am Thursday at the church. Burial will be at 2pm at Riverside Cemetery in Blue Earth.
