Selmer Gerhard Heggen

Selmer Gerhard Heggen, age 106, of Elmore, MN, passed away peacefully on Monday, February 13, 2017. Funeral service with be at 11AM on Saturday, February 18, 2017 at Shiloh Lutheran Church in Elmore, MN with Rev. Arne Bjelland officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the services at the church. Interment will take place immediately following the service at Riverview Cemetery in Elmore, MN. Online condolences may be left at www.pattonfh.com.Selmer was born on a farm near Goldfield, IA on September 10, 1910. As a young child his family moved to a farm near Renwick, IA. In the fourth grade his family again moved to a farm near Elmore, MN. In 1925, Selmer was confirmed at Shiloh Lutheran Church in Elmore, MN. Selmer married Genevieve G. Fjetland on December 12, 1932. Selmer and Gen stayed on the Heggen farm near Elmore and continued farming. In 1951, the couple moved to a farm of their own near Bricelyn, MN. Selmer retired from farming in 1968 and moved back to Elmore, MN. In retirement, Selmer enjoyed many activities, especially traveling. Selmer and Gen traveled to Texas and Arizona. Selmer owned a winter home in Tucson, AZ. Selmer also enjoyed shuffleboard, billiards, hiking, and cards. In 1984, Genevieve passed away. In 1990, Selmer married Eunice Rieffer. They spent a wonderful 25 years of marriage until her death in 2015.Selmer is survived by his children, Shari Larson and Sherwood (Mary) Heggen; grandchildren, Lee Heggen, Shari (Joe) Peter, Steven (Krina) Larson, Darren (April) Larson, and David (Melanie) Larson; great-grandchildren, Tori Larson, Joseph Larson, Zachary Larson, Genevieve Larson, Vivienne Larson, Emelia Larson, Juliette Larson, Payton Larson, Evelyn Peter, Megan Peter, and Stella Heggen.Selmer is preceded in death by his wives, Genevieve and Eunice; parents, Halvor and Martha; four sisters, Malinda, Mable, Esther, and Edna; four brothers, Martin, Joseph, Helmer, and Edwin.
