John "Wes" Wesley Skaden

John Wesley "Wes" Skaden passed away on Saturday, Aug 6, 2016 at Parkview Care Center in Wells, MN. A Celebration of Life for Wes will be held from 5:00 8:00pm, Wed, Aug 10, 2016 at Patton Funeral and Cremation Services, 400 E. 14th St., Blue Earth, MN. Wes was born at home, on December 31, 1925 in Rome Township, Frost, MN. He attended country school and then graduated from Frost High School where he participated in both basketball and football. He attended Luther College in Decorah, IA for a short time, before enlisting in the U.S. Army Air Corp. He served with the 243rd AAF from February 1944 until being honorably discharged in March 1946.After his military service, he attended and graduated from Gustavus Alolphus College in St Peter, MN, married Mavis Midthun and then moved to Blue Earth, MN. While in Blue Earth he worked at the Farmers Elevator and later managed the Guckeen Farmer Elevator. In 1977, he and Mavis began a new adventure owning and operating the A&W Drive Inn in Jefferson, IA. After Mavis passed away in 1997, Wes moved back to Blue Earth. Wes loved his family and had many friends. He reveled in his part-time retirement profession of farming. He also enjoyed playing cards with "the guys", fishing trips to Canada, watching Twins baseball and his volunteer work at the Trinity Lutheran Church. He is survived by his sister Ardys Frandle, his five children John (Carol) Skaden, Nancy Schonborn, Dick (Shelly) Skaden, Dave (Anne) Skaden, Jim (Tina) Skaden -- 14 grandchildren: Brad, Jennifer, Brian, Michelle, Angela, Erik, Justin, Jessica, Jibril, Nick, Nicole, Mary, Bill, Janelle and 23 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife Mavis, his parents Oscar and Hilda, his sister Delores Chilson and three grandchildren.A private, family burial will take place on Thursday, August 11, 2016 at Bethany Lutheran Church in Frost, MN.In lieu of flowers, the family would prefer that donations can be made to the Parkview Care Center, in Wells, MN, in his name.
