Ward K. Johnson, age 93, of Blue Earth, passed away on July 16, 2015 at St Luke''s Lutheran Care Center in Blue Earth, Minnesota.Memorial service will be 11AM Thursday July 23, 2015 at Patton Funeral Home & Cremation Service in Blue Earth with visitation one hour prior to service and Rev. Russ Jacobsen officiating. Burial will be at the Verona Township Cemetery in Huntley, Minnesota at a later date. Web tributes may be left at www.pattonfh.com.Ward was born August 17, 1921 at Aitkin, Minnesota to E. Lloyd and Reseda "Sadie" (Held) Johnson. The family moved to Owatonna in 1925 where he attended school. In 1930, the family moved to rural Winnebago, Ward then attended school at Huntley. He started farming at a young age with his father and brothers raising livestock and crops. Ward and his brothers raised seed grain, wholesale and retail, and also sold fertilizer. On January 17, 1970, he married Mary M "Marge" Sawyer in Aitkin, Minnesota. They lived west of Huntley and he farmed in partnership with his brothers until his retirement in 1979. They moved to Blue Earth in 1997. He was active in Faribault County Crop Improvement Association, Faribault County Rural Youth and State Crop Association and enjoyed roller skating, dancing, playing pool, and playing cards. The Johnsons spent one winter in Pharr, Texas and many winters in Mesa, Arizona. Ward and Marge enjoyed traveling with their fifth wheel, camping and traveling by car with close friends in many states and they belonged to the Good Sam Club.Ward is survived by his wife Marge, sister-in-law, Christine Johnson, nieces, nephews and several cousins.He was preceded on death by his parents, brother Cleighton Johnson, and sister, Evelyn Sweet.Memorials are preferred to the Mayo Foundation for medical education and research.
