LaVonne Volz

LaVonne Volz, 93, of Blue Earth passed away August 14, 2015 at St. Luke''s Care Center in Blue Earth Minnesota. Visitation will be 4-6PM Tuesday Aug. 18 at Patton Funeral Home of Blue Earth and 1 hour prior to the 11AM funeral service Wednesday Aug. 19 at Trinity Lutheran Church, Blue Earth. Burial will be at Dell Lutheran Cemetery at a later date.LaVonne was born December 10, 1921 on a farm in rural Dell MN, the second child of Alfred and Agnes (Christian) Peterson. She was baptized and confirmed at Dell Lutheran Church, and graduated from Augustana Academy in Canton, SD. She graduated from Waldorf College in Forest City, IA. and finished her four year degree at Augsburg College in Minneapolis. Lavonne met Robert Ralph Volz while serving lunch to his threshing crew on her father''s farm at Frost. They were married December 23, 1942. In the spring of 1946 Lavonne and Bob moved to the farm at Dell where they raised 9 children and farmed for 40 years. Her life was marked and measured by service, work and family. A tireless volunteer, she served on the Frost and Blue Earth School Boards, St. Luke''s Board, and in many capacities in her community and church. A lifetime learner, she read newspapers daily, loved to discuss the news, and became a crossword expert. She wrote histories of the Dell Store and the Dell Church and then, in her eighties, her own story.Proud of her Norwegian heritage, she met King Harald when he visited Minneapolis in 1995. Returning home that evening, she informed Bob she couldn''t make supper for him after lunching with the king. She was most proud of her children and grandchildren and showed her love of family in the family gatherings she organized, her open door, and her gracious example and generosity.Survived by her children Joan Volz of Welch, Paula and Kevin Thompson of Chesterfield, VA., Paulette von Mende of Chesterfield, VA., Kent and Deb Volz of Vasa, Gail and David George of Soda Springs, ID., Bonita and Steve Zimmer of Blue Earth, Lynette and John Messer of Spirit Lake, IA., Scott and Lori Volz of Blue Earth and Lee Volz of Inver Grove Heights; 18 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; sister, Alphine Bennett of Clarion, IA.; brother, Paul Peterson of Blue Earth.Preceded by her husband Bob in 2007, son-in-law Aki von Mende, 2 grandchildren, 3 great-grandchildren, brother Burton Peterson of Fairmont.Memorials preferred to UHD Hospice, or charity of choice.https://picasaweb.google.com/103075730430000734379/Mom?authkey=Gv1sRgCMjpzfD_ptDeeQ&feat=directlink
