Marlys Meyer, 93, of Blue Earth passed away on October 24, 2015. Memorial service will be 1:00 p.m. Saturday November 7, 2015 at Patton Funeral Home of Blue Earth with visitation one hour prior. Marlys was born March 24, 1922 to Albert and Mildred (Larson) Gjervik in Madelia MN. She graduated from Madelia High School in 1940, and Gustavus Adolphus in 1944.On November 24, 1944 Marlys married Richard Brenckman in New London, Connecticut at the submarine base.She taught high school in Springfield and Fairmont MN, two years at Gustavus Adolphus, and in the Bird Island, Danube, Frost, Elmore and Blue Earth Schools. Marlys was the first swimming instructor for the Blue Earth Pool.Richard died on May 9, 1971, and in 1974 she married Louis Meyer and with him gained eight step-children and their families.Marlys taught release time religion and Sunday school at Trinity Lutheran. She was a Cub Scout den mother, and a member of the Legion Hospital Auxiliaries. She enjoyed playing cards, especially Bridge, and swimming throughout her life. She was fond of cheese balls and Coke-Zero.She is survived by her sons, Kim (Rae Ann) Brenckman, Joel (Marianne) Brenckman and Bruce (Karla) Brenckman; grandchildren, Nick and Alex Brenckman, Sean Brenckman and Sarah (Hans) Leida, Christian Brenckman and Julia (Adam) Brosz; and three great-grandchildren.Marlys was preceded in death by her parents; first husband, Richard Brenckman; second husband, Louis Meyer; and sister, Betty Carlson.Memorials are preferred to the Interfaith Caregivers- Faith in Action, 415 S. Grove St. Suite #5, Blue Earth MN 56013.
