Web tributes may be left at www.pattonfh.comLorraine was born October 13, 1922, at home on the farm in Faribault County, MN, the oldest of four children. She graduated from Delavan School. She met her husband, Vernon, in July 1943 in Fairbury, NE. They were engaged August 1944 in Rantoul, IL, after Vernon returned from his service in the Army Air Corps in WWII. Lorraine and Vernon married March 10, 1945, at Immanuel Lutheran Church and after a honeymoon in Miami Beach, shared more than 60 years together. They farmed near Delavan from 1952 until 1984. In retirement, they traveled as far away as Thailand and visited every U.S. state except Alaska. Lorraine enjoyed spending much of her life outdoors, farming and fishing. She was a phenomenal cook. Lorraine was no nonsense, and always spoke her truth. She had a great laugh. And she loved her family dearly. In the last couple months of her life, she was blessed to spend precious time with all of her children, most of her grandchildren, and some great-grandchildren, including one just born. We reminisced and laughed, said our thank-yous and love yous. And she wished all the goodness in the world to each one of us. She is survived by her children, Mary Jo (Richard) Crown of Bloomington, MN; Kenneth (Barbara) Smith of Belgrade, MT; Verne (Paula) Smith of Bemidji, MN; and Sherwood (Anne) Smith of Eagan, MN. She is also survived by 11 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, sister Mavis (William) Solberg, and many other relatives and friends. The family is thankful for the loving care Lorraine received at UHD and St. Luke''s. Memorials preferred to Immanuel Lutheran Church or the Lutheran Hour.
