ALVIN H. MARTIN, age 100, of Blue Earth, passed peacefully, Wednesday, June 12, 2013, at St. Luke''s Lutheran Care Center, Blue Earth. Memorial services will be held on Monday, June 17, 2013 at 2:00 PM at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Blue Earth with Rev. Wes Hafner officiating. Burial will be in Pleasant View Cemetery, Amboy. Visitation time will be one hour prior to services at the church. Patton Funeral Home & Cremation Service is assisting the family with the services. Web tributes may be left at www.pattonfh.comAlvin was born February 5, 1913, in Pilot Grove Township in Faribault County, MN, the son of Gustav and Hertha (Lange) Martin. He grew up in Amboy where he was a 1930 graduate of Amboy High School. He worked in the grocery business before his marriage to Marie M. LaCroix on September 30, 1941 at Cass Lake, MN. He enlisted in the US Army in 1943 and served in the 333 Engineers Battalion as a Sergeant in England, France and Germany. He returned to the Blue Earth area in 1945 where he continued in the grocery business for 22 years and eventually became part owner in the Moulton Supermarket. After 35 years in the grocery business, he was a meat inspector with the USDA at Hormel Foods in Austin from 1968 until retirement in 1986 at age 73. Alvin was a longtime, faithful member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Blue Earth where he held several offices. He was also a lifetime member of the American Legion Post 89 and VFW Post 4580 where he was a past commander. Alvin enjoyed reading, woodworking, working in the yard and spending time with family.Alvin is survived by his son, Douglas Martin of Blue Earth, his Daughter, Vicki (Walter) Bielke of Prior Lake, his grandchildren, Joshua (Julia) Bielke and Zachary (Denise) Bielke and great granddaughter, Adelaide Bielke.He was preceded in death by his wife, Marie in 1995, brothers, Robert Martin and Eric Martin and a sister, Genevieve Olson.Memorial donations are preferred to St. Paul Lutheran Church or St. Luke''s Lutheran Care Center.
