Helen Wicks, age 65, of Eden Prairie, formerly of Elmore, died Tuesday, August 23, 2011, at St. Luke''s Lutheran Care Center, Blue Earth. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, August 27, 2011, at 2:00 PM, at Shiloh Lutheran Church in Elmore, with Rev. Robert Roettger officiating. Burial will be in Riverview Cemetery, Elmore. Visitation time will be one hour prior to services at the church. Patton Funeral Home & Cremation Service of Blue Earth is assisting the family with the arrangements. Web tributes may be left at www.pattonfh.comHelen was born October 27, 1945, in Blue Earth, the daughter of Harry and Lillie (Nelson) Ziegler. She was raised and educated in Elmore where she was a 1963 graduate of Elmore High School. She earned her bachelor''s degree in music education from Mankato State University. She was married to Thomas G. Wicks, III on June 15, 1968 at Shiloh Lutheran Church in Elmore. Helen earned her master''s degree in counseling from the University of Nebraska at Omaha. She loved children and found joy in teaching music and counseling to school children for many years in such places as: Omaha, NE, Spencer, Iowa, Manhattan, Kansas and with the West St. Paul Public School system. She enjoyed frequent travel with her sisters to Maine, Branson, Missouri and Buffalo, NY. She was fan of the Minnesota Timberwolves and loved watching the Vikings in the Dome and on Television. She was proud to be a 10 year plus breast cancer survivor.Helen Wicks is survived by her Husband, Thomas G.Wicks, III of Eden Prairie, her son, Thomas G. Wicks, IV of Brooklyn Park and his son Jacob Erik Wicks of Brooklyn Park, her sisters, Jeanette Fenske of Blue Earth & Carolyn (David) Halverson of Rake, Iowa, her brother, Donald (Joyce) Ziegler of Blue Earth and brother-in-law, Ken Eischen of Buffalo, New York.She was preceded in death by her parents, sister, Erna Eischen and her son, Erik Wicks.Memorials are preferred to the care facility Erik resided in for 17 years: Hiawatha Home Foundation, 1820 Valkyrie Drive NW, Rochester, MN 55901
