Roger D. (Buckey) Legried, age 73, of Frost, MN passed away Thursday, September 29, 2011. Funeral services will be held at Bethany Lutheran Church, Rural Frost, MN on Tuesday, October 4, 2011 at 11:00 am with Pastor Arne Halbakken officiating. Burial will be in the Bethany Lutheran Cemetery, Frost. Visiting hours will be from 4:00 to 8:00 PM on Monday at Patton Funeral Home & Cremation Service in Blue Earth and one hour prior to services at the church. Buckey Legried, son of Orville and Mildred Legried was born January 24, 1938 at rural Frost, MN. Buckey was baptized and confirmed at Bethany Lutheran Church of rural Frost, MN. Buckey graduated from Frost High School and attended the University of Minnesota, St. Paul Campus. He served in the United States Army from 1959 to 1961 in Germany with the 97th Signal Corps. After being honorably discharged from the Army, he came home and became involved in farming.On February 12, 1967, Buckey was united in marriage to Shirley Golias at the Evangelical United Brethren Church in Mankato, MN. In 1967 he also went into business selling snowmobiles, livestock equipment and feed which became known as Buckey''s Sales & Service.He was involved in many community activities including 4-H, Boy Scouts, Faribault County Pork Producers, Blue Earth Chamber of Commerce, Rome Township Board and serving most of his adult life on the Church Council. He also served as President of United in Faith Lutheran Parish.Buckey accomplished many things in his life. Most notable was becoming a Guinness Book of World Record Holder for the World''s Largest Cap Collection on October 6, 2006 with 82, 792 caps. He was recertified as the Guinness World Record Holder in 2010 with 100, 336. He now has over 109, 000 caps in his collection. In 1986, Buckey was inducted into the Minnesota Swine Honor Roll at the Pork Producers Convention. He was named "Agri-Business Person of the Year" from the Blue Earth Chamber of Commerce in 1992. In 1997, he was honored as the "Fair Person of the Year" by the Faribault County Fair Board and, at the same time, also received an award from KBEW Radio in recognition of three decades as a valuable advertiser.Buckey enjoyed making people happy and presented programs for many years in the area Care Centers, Rest Homes and Senior Citizen groups with his concertina, caps, jokes and magic. His greatest hobby was his cap collection of 109, 000 different caps from all over the world and playing "Old Time" music on his concertina.Buckey is survived by one daughter, Karen Phang and husband Sarey of Eagan, MN, one son Scott Legried of Frost, MN and sister, Joyce (Del) Armon of Lakota, Iowa. He was preceded in death by his wife Shirley in 1996, one brother Dennis and his parents.Blessed be the memory of Buckey Legried.
