Elwood C. "Lefty" Alfson, age 77, of Winnebago, died Tuesday, August 30, 2005, at the Veterans Administration Hospital in Minneapolis. Funeral services will be held on Friday, September 2, 2005, at 11:00 AM, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Blue Earth, with Rev. Stephen Bohling officiating. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery, Blue Earth. Visitation time will be from 4:00 to 8:00 PM Thursday, at Patton Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 400 E. 14th Street, in Blue Earth, and one hour prior to services at the church. Web tributes may be left at www.pattonfh.comHe was born December 4, 1927, at Blue Earth the son of Melvin J. and Mathilda A. (Graue) Alfson.Lefty and Beverly Mae (Elmore) were married on April 25, 1953 in Blue Earth, Minnesota. Lefty was a lifelong Blue Earth and Winnebago area resident, where he worked at various jobs including Enterline Chrysler dealership for several years, was a farm hand and worked for Stokley-VanKamp in Winnebago and Fairmont for over 20 years. He retired in 1983 due to health reasons, giving him more time to spend outdoors at his hobby farm by the river - his favorite pastime. Lefty was a veteran and a member of the Winnebago American Legion Post 82. As a two-time cancer survivor, Lefty was a 10-year sponsor of the Faribault Co. Relay for Life. He also enjoyed spending time with his family-especially his grandchildren.He is survived by his wife, Beverly Alfson of, Winnebago, daughter, Cindy (& husband George) Potz of Porter, daughter, Ginger (& husband Gary) Goldtrap of Lakota, Iowa, daughter, Sue (& husband Larry) Stauffer of Winnebago, son, Jeff (& wife Chris) Alfson of, Blue Earth, daughter, Lori (& husband Larry) Yackley of Winnebago, son, Dave "Slim" Alfson of Winnebago, sister, Irene Boettcher of Blue Earth, 15 Grandchildren and 9 Great Grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Son-Mike in 1982, three brothers-Wayne, Roger & Kermit Alfson,two sisters-Marlene Lubitz & Eileen Alfson and one great grandson, Levi.
