Esther Borcherding

Esther was born March 26, 1911, in Steele County, MN., the daughter of Rudolph and Anna (Brocker) Drache.She was raised and educated in Ellendale, MN. She worked on the family farm there and later in Bricelyn as a telephone operator before moving to Riverside, California in about 1940. She worked as a houskeeper and then at Bethlehem Steel Ship Yard after the WWII broke out. There she met Jim Borcherding and the couple was later married in January of 1944 in Reno, Nevada. Following the war the couple lived in El Paso, Texas and many other places across the country before settling in Russell, MN in the early 1950''s. Jim died in 1960 and Esther eventually came to Blue Earth to be near her daughter in 1986. Esther had been a resident of Friendship Lane and later St. Luke''s Lutheran Care Center since 1997. She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church and was a 50 year member of the Order of the Eastern Star. She enjoyed quilting and baking cookies and other goodies for her grandsons.She is survived by her daughter, Ann (Husband Jim) Ekse of Blue Earth, grandsons, Jonas Ekse of Duluth, and Jeremy(& wife Darcy) Ekse of Perham, and one great grandchild, Hannah Ekse. Esther was preceded in death by her husband in 1960, a brother, Arthur Drache and a sister Elsie Strenge.
