Alice M. Hesseldahl

Alice was born July 2, 1909, at Portage, Wisconsin, the daughter of Henry and Cora (Bendixen) Sabin.In 1915 her family moved to Minnesota and settled near Frost, where she attended school in Dell and later graduated from Blue Earth High School in 1928. In 1929 she graduated from Normal Teacher''s Training in Blue Earth. She then taught at rural schools in Elmore and Frost. She was married to Conrad A. Hesseldahl on November 11, 1930 at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa. After raising her children, Alice began teaching in the Elmore School in 1953, where she taught mainly sixth grade classes. Her husband, Conrad, died in 1958. She earned her two year teaching certificate in 1954 and her Bachelors degree in Education from Mankato State College in 1961. She retired from the Elmore School in 1976, after 23 years. Alice loved teaching and always said "the children - that''s what I miss the most." Her students have appreciated her too, as over the years many have visited her and later taken care of her while she resided at St. Luke''s Lutheran Care Center. She touched many lives.Alice is survived by her son, Richard (& wife Dotti) Hesseldahl of Phoenix, Arizona, daughter, Marlene (& husband Duane) Garmann of Owatonna, grandsons, Steven Garmann of Owatonna, Thomas (& wife Carla) Garmann of Owatonna and Rich C. Hesseldahl of Houston, Texas, 3 great grandchildren and 2 step-great grandchildren.She was preceded in death by her husband, two brothers: Roger & Howard Sabin and a sister, Elinor Heuer.
