Marian Peterson

October 24, 1909 — December 17, 2003

Marian Gladys Peterson was born October 24,1909 in Freeborn Co, MN, the adopted daughter of John and Josephene "Josie" (Amundson) Bergsetter. She was raised in the Bricelyn area attending country school through 8th grade. She graduated from Bricelyn High School in 1928 as salutatorian. She received her normal training in Blue Earth and taught in rural Blue Earth schools for four years. She was married to Orlo Peterson on June 1, 1931 in Dell, MN. The couple farmed for many years at rural Blue Earth where Marian enjoyed ceramics, knitting, quilting, and baking wedding cakes. She was an excellent cook producing family feasts on many occasions but particularly for the holidays. She was a skilled card player and loved games of all kinds. She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star and served as Worthy Matron. For 17 years, Orlo and Marian enjoyed spending the winters in Mesa, Az. Marian was the longest serving member (1931) of the First United Methodist church in Blue Earth where she was active in the United Methodist Women and the Chat and Seau Club over those years. Marian shared a love of fishing with Orlo and they made multiple Canadian fishing trips with family and friends each summer. All who fished with her said she was the best walleye fisherman they had ever seen. Marian is survived by her son, Darwin (& wife Alice) Peterson of Madison, WI, son Larold (& wife Bev) Peterson of Hackensack, MN, son Boyd (& wife Opal) Peterson of Danville, IN, seven grandchildren, four step-grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren.She was preceded in death by her husband in 1994 a brother-Armand Bergsetter and a sister-Myrtle Bell. Memorials may be made to First United Methodist Church, Blue Earth. Mom you were always a pillar of strength in our family. We will love you forever and we will cherish the memories we have of you.
