Gene was raised and educated in Bricelyn where he was a 1957 graduate of Bricelyn High School. He married Shirley A. Brandsoy on September 23, 1961 at North Blue Earth Lutheran Church. Gene was an active member of NBE church for his entire life. Gene enlisted in the Army and served for 3 years. He earned high honors in his field of service. He returned home to farm with his father, Harvey. Gene and Shirley made their home on a farm south of Bricelyn. On this farm they spent many happy years together and proudly raised their three children. Family and farming were the epitome of Gene's life. Gene was very innovative in the field of agriculture and very much enjoyed the challenges and successes of farming in this community. Gene could fix anything; from a breakdown on the farm to the family's 8mm projector.
Gene had a fierce competitive spirit. He enjoyed all types of sports and excelled at whatever task was at hand from racing snowmobiles to waterskiing, tennis, golf, trap-shooting, cards. He loved to good-heartedly tease Shirley's family members and truly enjoyed the friendships that they shared together.
Gene and Shirley enjoyed an active social life with their very dear friends, and loved to go dancing or out to dinner with them. Gene was a conservative man and had simple taste. He was always a thinker and a hard worker. Gene's way of telling his loved ones that he cared for them when saying good bye was, "turn on your lights, buckle your seatbelt and watch out for deer." Gene's life was his wife, his family and his faith.
Gene is survived by his children Darren Anderson of Bricelyn, Christine (Tim) Kuehl of Reinbeck, Iowa and Daniel (Amy) Anderson of Mankato. He is also survived by seven grandchildren; Nicholas Anderson, Callie, Brady and Saari Kuehl, Isabel, Olivia, and Griffin Anderson. Gene is survived by his sister Marilyn (Michael) Ginsburg of Hector, and brothers Duane (Ailene) Anderson of Arizona, Terry (Sandy) Anderson of Texas and Allan (Cathy) Anderson of New York.
Gene was preceded in death by his wife, Shirley, and his parents, Harvey and Inez Anderson.
